چکیده

Aims. The aim of this catalogue is to provide the reader with some basic information on the X-ray sources and their counterparts in other wavelength ranges (γ-rays, UV, optical, IR, and radio). Some sources, however, are only tentatively identified as low-mass X-ray binaries on the basis of their X-ray properties similar to the known low-mass X-ray binaries. Further identification in other wavelength bands is needed to finally determine the nature of these sources. In cases where there is some doubt about the low-mass nature of the X-ray binary this is mentioned. Methods. Literature published before 1 October 2006 has, as far as possible, been taken into account. Results. We present a new edition of the catalogue of the low-mass X-ray binaries in the Galaxy and the Magellanic Clouds. The catalogue contains source name(s), coordinates, finding chart, X-ray luminosity, system parameters, and stellar parameters of the components and other characteristic properties of 187 low-mass X-ray binaries, together with a comprehensive selection of the relevant literature.

Forty Years of X-Ray Binaries

In 2012 it was forty years ago that the discovery of the first X-ray binary Centaurus X-3 became known. That same year it was discovered that apart from the High-Mass X-ray Binaries (HMXBs) there are also Low-Mass X-ray Binaries (LMXBs), and that Cygnus X-1 is most probably a black hole. By 1975 also the new class of Be/X-ray binaries was discovered. After this it took 28 years before ESAs INTE...

Doubling the number of Be/X-ray binaries in the SMC

A correlation of X-ray source and Hα emission-line object catalogues in the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) shows that more than two thirds of the optically identified Be stars in Be/X-ray binaries are found as emission-line objects in the catalogues. On the basis of this result we propose up to 25 X-ray sources mainly from recent ROSAT catalogues as new Be/Xray binaries and give their likely opti...

High Mass X-ray Binary Modeling: The Magellanic Cloud Populations

We construct models for the population of high mass X-ray binaries (HMXRBs) in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) and Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC). In particular , we investigate the eeect which the lower stellar metallicities of the Magellanic Clouds (MCs) has on the evolution and properties of HMXRBs. From the observed properties of the relatively small number of identiied HMXRBs in the MCs, it...

A radio survey of supersoft, persistent and transient X-ray sources in the Magellanic Clouds

We present a radio survey of X-ray sources in the Large and Small Magellanic clouds with the Australia Telescope Compact Array at 6.3 and 3.5 cm. Specifically, we have observed the fields of five LMC and two SMC supersoft X-ray sources, the X-ray binaries LMC X-1, X-2, X-3 & X-4, the X-ray transient Nova SMC 1992, and the soft gamma-ray repeater SGR 0525-66. None of the targets are detected as ...
